The Dutch brand's expedition yachts were previously known as SeaXplorer, and the new 80 metre long and 14 metre wide design now follows the original SeaXplorer 77. "With the launch of the Xplorer 80, we have demonstrated our ability to create a perfect crossover superyacht," says Rose Damen, Managing Director of Damen Yachting, "She combines luxury, performance, highly specialised shipbuilding and everything in between."
For the exterior lines, Damen Yachting has once again opted for a partnership with the Dutch professionals from Azure Yacht Design & Naval Architecture. While the original SeaXplorer exterior DNA is still recognisable, for example with the characteristic bow, the observation lounge, the closed wheelhouse and the crow's nest, the modern and refined design of the Xplorer 80 gives this rather robust type of yacht a remarkable touch of elegance.
The shipyard teamed up with the London design studio Harrison Eidsgaard to design the first interior. The result is a cosy domicile for twelve guests, which is also suitable for longer stays thanks to its volume of 2900 gross tonnes. Harrison Eidsgaard created a straightforward ambience reminiscent of a typical Manhattan loft - with refined details, intelligent storage space and plenty of warmth. "This interior can cater for any journey and any lifestyle," says Ben Harrison.
Thanks to its experience with customised designs and standardised technical platforms, Damen supplies the Xplorer 80 with various layout options, especially for the aft main deck. Xplorer Design Manager Enrique Tintore explains: "If a heli hangar is not important, we have other options for this space. A conference room or a seventh guest cabin? A state-of-the-art laboratory? We make it possible." Most owners are more likely to opt for a more spacious spa, a double tender garage, a diving centre or an XL lounge.
For the Xplorer 80, Damen worked with various designers to conjure up a range of alternatives around the same platform. For the exterior, Espen Øino, Harrison Eidsgaard and Azure Yacht Design have created further concepts, while Winch Design and Reymond Langton have provided additional ideas for the interior.
