Our trainee, David Ingelfinger, had actually been hoping for an absolute thrill of speed with the futuristic Racebirds, but on the water, the E1 speedsters turned out to be surprisingly tame. The race did, however, provide some thrilling action, including a crash, against the stunning backdrop of Dubrovnik, and the drivers were more approachable than expected. At the age of 77, Renate Weineck sets sail alone on the Baltic Sea every summer – well, almost alone: her teddy bear keeps her company on board. In this interview, the solo skipper explains how she navigates locks on her own, what sailing suitable for older people means, and why, for her, freedom means being able to make her own decisions.
The Finnish shipyard unveiled the brand-new Axopar 38 Sun Top in Mallorca at the start of May. What immediately catches the eye on board are the sliding sun canopy – which gives the boat its name – and the folding side balconies. Our editor Leonie Meyer was on board and was able to put this sporty new model through its paces in changeable weather conditions.
