Eloquent, extremely talented, humorous, ambitious, reliable, a sailor through and through - these are probably just a few of the qualities and descriptions that would come to mind if you were to ask the global yachting scene about Ed Dubois. He, one of the greats of yacht design, passed away on 24 March. Born in 1952, the Briton succumbed to an illness that he seemed to have conquered last year.

Ed Dubois' career began in the 1970s and spanned decades. The yachts whose look he designed include "Kokomo", "Red Dragon", "Mondango" and "Twizzle". Anyone on this globe who wanted to buy a sailing yacht over 50 metres in length almost inevitably came into contact with him. Dubois was regarded as one of the very few maestros when it came to designing mega yachts. Alloy Yachts, Fitzroy, Oyster and Royal Huisman were the shipyards that primarily realised his designs. Feadship also realised motor yachts from his pen ("Como", "Kiss") - he was not too fond of computers.

It is already known that the Dubois Design office will be run by Peter Bolke, who has been part of the team for 23 years. The funeral will take place in the closest family circle. Dubois is survived by his wife and four children. Farewell, Ed.
