Gill has revamped its ‘Savona 2.0’ deck shoe. A new, more grippy sole, a reinforced toe area and a cushioned insole are designed to ensure a secure grip and comfort on board. At 95 euros, it remains significantly cheaper than most comparable models.

This quick-drying shoe is available in the colours ‘Navy’ and ‘Quarry’, as well as in sizes 39 to 47. The “Savona 2.0” is a versatile deck shoe costing under 100 euros and, according to the manufacturer, is suitable for both everyday life on board and when going ashore.

Comfort for long periods on board

The shoe is made from mesh – a lightweight, net-like woven fabric – and synthetic materials. This is designed to make it as lightweight, breathable and quick-drying as possible. According to the manufacturer, the robust ripstop outer material also protects the shoe from damage.

To provide better shock absorption, the shoe features a removable Air-Cell insole. This is designed to reduce strain when standing for long periods on board or when ashore. It can also be easily combined with external insoles.

New features

To extend the shoe’s lifespan, Gill has provided additional reinforcement to the toe and heel areas. This is primarily intended to provide extra stability to areas subject to heavy wear. The outsole has also been modified: the textured tread is non-slip and, according to the manufacturer, does not rub off.

Competition in the market

Gill’s ‘Savona 2.0’ is aimed primarily at users who are looking for a versatile shoe for everyday use on board and in port, but don’t want to spend more than 100 euros. It is also cheaper than comparable models from the competition. The Musto Dynamic Race, 160 euros, and the Zhik ZKG Amphibious Shoe, 129.95 euros.

Like the “Savona 2.0”, the Musto Dynamic Race features a breathable mesh upper with a slip-resistant sole and reinforcements at the toe and heel. The Zhik ZKG Amphibious Shoe also features mesh, rapid water drainage and a grippy outsole.
