With folding bikes, you usually have to choose between a compact pack size and good riding comfort. The BYB P10 from Tern is said to offer a particularly good compromise. It has comparatively large wheels with a diameter of 20 inches, but thanks to the special frame shape and double joints, it can be folded around 30 per cent smaller than other 20-inch bikes. The pack size is just 33 x 80 x 50 centimetres. To save weight, you have to do without some everyday features such as mudguards, pannier rack, chain guard and lighting system, but there is a ten-speed derailleur from Shimano and the bike weighs just 11.8 kilograms. If you don't have to pay attention to every gram, you can retrofit front and rear pannier racks. Tern's BYB P10 costs 1599 euros.

Teak alternative from EcoDeck

With EcoDeck, M-EcoDeck Germany GmbH offers a high-quality and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional teak decking. The company was founded in response to increasing demand in the German-speaking market for a replacement for teak decking. EcoDeck is made from renewable, solvent-free resins and can be recycled at the end of its life cycle, making it an attractive option for environmentally conscious boat owners. The product fulfils the highest standards and retains its properties throughout its service life. It is non-slip, easy to maintain and has low maintenance costs, making it a cost-effective alternative to traditional decking. It is also certified in accordance with SOLAS and IMO regulations. As the material can be processed like wood, elements such as handrails, bathing platforms, footrails and steps can also be produced.

Anyone who has equipped their boat with the P-Bus system from Philippi can now also access the data via smartphone. This requires the black box known as the CBW interface. It is simply connected to the P-Bus and the power supply and enables access to the data available in the system from batteries, tanks, temperatures or inverters. The interface costs 99 euros, the associated app is available for the iOS and Android operating systems and can be downloaded free of charge from the respective app stores.

There is hardly a cheaper way to modernise your energy supply than with the lithium-iron-phosphate batteries from the Spanish-French supplier Ultimatron. Depending on the version, 100 ampere-hour batteries from the Olalitio and Ecowatt series cost between 426 and 527 euros. This corresponds to the price of high-quality AGM batteries with a comparable usable capacity. The lithium batteries have an integrated BMS and, depending on the version, a Bluetooth interface. No information is provided on the charging current limit, so a B2B charger should be planned for the alternator.

Beam radar from Garmin

Garmin's GMR xHD3 series of beam radars offer improved targeting and range thanks to the latest magnetron platform technology. For the first time, a Garmin radar is equipped with Scan Averaging technology, which filters out noise in the sea and thus enables a more precise target display. The True Echo Trails function displays the signal trail of moving targets on the screen to identify potential collision hazards more quickly. The GMR xHD3 series is available in variants with 1.2 and 1.8 metre antennas and a transmission power of 4, 12 or 25 kilowatts and is certified for a wind force of 100 knots. They offer a maximum range of up to 96 nautical miles for the 12 and 25-kilowatt models and up to 72 nautical miles for the 4-kilowatt models. The GMR xHD3 beam radars are available now, with prices ranging from €5999.99 to €11,439.99.
