Manuals for navigation apps

Saar-Verlag was founded in 2020 to fill the gap in the lack of German manuals for navigation apps. It all started more than 20 years ago with ISY GmbH and the missing manual for "TRANSAS-NAVIGATOR". To date, manuals have been created for seven navigation apps: iNavX, iSailor, Kartenwerft NavGo2, Navionics Boating (German and English), NV Charts, SeaPilot and TZ iBoat. The manuals, which comprise 80 to 120 pages and contain many colour screenshots, are updated regularly. This means that innovations in the apps can be taken into account.

Multifunction displays from Simrad

Simrad presents the new NSX series, exclusively compatible with C-MAP DISCOVER X and REVEAL X charts. The NSX 3012 and 3015 Ultrawide multifunction displays combine the benefits of two displays on one wide screen, ideal for displaying apps without frames or blank spaces. Users can customise the instruments. The SolarMAX IPS touchscreen delivers crystal-clear map details, even in sunlight or through polarisation filters. Improved day and night modes and a user-friendly interface make it easy to customise the layout. The C-MAP DISCOVER X and REVEAL X nautical charts offer high-resolution bathymetry and accurate contour lines. Users can call up additional information directly from the chart. The charts are optimised for ultrawide displays, which enables a sharp and detailed display.

Decathlon calls its climate-friendly alternative to neoprene Yulex 100. The material is made entirely from FSC-certified natural rubber and is designed to reduce the carbon footprint of a suit by 43 per cent without compromising on comfort. Swimming costumes for children and shirts for adults are available at the start of production.

Crockery tray for the galley

The Plastimo bamboo crockery tray is an elegant and practical addition to any galley. Made from high-quality bamboo, it impresses with its natural look and robust finish. The longitudinal joints not only provide an attractive design, but also additional stability. Ideal for transporting crockery and cutlery, the tray has a non-slip surface and handy handles for a secure grip. And bamboo is an environmentally friendly alternative to teak. This grass is the fastest growing plant on earth. It takes two to five years to reach maturity, whereas teak takes 30 to 40 years.

Customised mattresses

With the customised mattresses from Geovital, back pain should be a thing of the past. Thanks to their special structure of vertical slats, the spine is automatically stretched when lying down and the intervertebral discs are relieved. The manufacturer from Sulzberg in Austria promises to prevent back problems and provide relief from acute pain. The so-called stretch mattresses are made of multi-layer foam and have ventilation channels. As the company boss himself is at home on boats, he also offers the mattresses, which were originally developed for therapeutic purposes, for yachts. The mattresses are customised, so the prices depend on the desired design.

Editor Test & Technology

Ole Puls was born in Schleswig in 1999. He quickly swapped the football pitch for the Schlei and grew up sailing a wide variety of dinghies and tall ships. From his grandfather's self-built wooden opti and a Europe to a 49er and an X362 Sport, there was a lot to choose from. After leaving school, Puls decided to train as a boat builder at the high-tech shipyard Knierim Yachtbau in Kiel in 2016. He successfully completed his training in 2020 and stayed at the shipyard as a bachelor. In 2022, he decided not only to build boats, but also to test them. Since then, he has been working for Delius Klasing Verlag in the Test & Technology section of BOOTE magazine. The training he received and the eye for detail and quality of workmanship he acquired help him immensely today. Even though he is a regatta sailor with heart and soul, he feels right at home on motorboats and enjoys separating his professional and private lives and yet combining them. Because we all know one thing: there is simply no better place to be than on the water.
