Want to capture your trip on a motorboat on film? No problem with the new products from GoPro and DJI presented here. The devices not only impress with their recording quality, but also with their compactness

GoPro Hero and Hero 13 Black: Super small and robust

GoPro has two new cameras in its range: the Hero 13 Black and the Hero. The Hero 13 offers very high-resolution slo-mo functions, a larger battery with 1,900 milliampere hours and various recording modes and costs 450 euros. The Hero is the smallest Gopro to date, weighs 86 grams and comes with a touch display. 230 euros.

DJI Neo: Smaller, smarter, cheaper

The DJI Neo is a camera drone without a remote control. It is launched from the hand, recognises the person and then tracks them independently. Various recording modes such as circling are possible. Landing is initiated by a hand gesture and also takes place fully automatically on the palm of the hand. Flight instructions can be given to the DJI Neo via voice control. The camera records in 4K at 30 frames per second. In addition to voice control, the camera angle can also be changed via the app. The price: 199 euros.

Camera drones and action cameras: affordable alternatives for skippers

For beginners who want to start creating sailing videos without a large financial investment, there are a number of inexpensive drones and action cameras that perform well despite their lower price.

What should you look out for when buying?

  • Stability: Make sure that both the drone and the action camera can provide stable shots, especially important when it gets windy and wavy at sea.
  • WatertightnessAn obviously important factor for creating videos on the water. Check whether additional protective covers are required.
  • Battery lifeConsider the battery life of devices to ensure you have enough time to film without having to constantly recharge.
