2026 has just started and many people have New Year's resolutions for 2025. Boaters should also think about what goals they want to set themselves in order to be safe and responsible on the water. Here are ten New Year's resolutions for boaters

Topics in this article

New Year's resolution 1: Check safety equipment

Checking safety equipment: At the start of the new year, every boater should check their safety equipment and replace it if necessary. This includes life jackets, life rings and fire extinguishers.

New Year's resolution 2: Complete a first aid course

Refreshing first aid skills: It is important that boaters know how to administer first aid in an emergency. You should therefore regularly attend first aid courses to refresh your knowledge.

New Year's resolution 3: Prevent repairs

Regular maintenance of the boat: A well-maintained boat is safer and more reliable. Boaters should therefore have regular maintenance work carried out in order to recognise and rectify problems at an early stage.

New Year's resolution 4: take care of the environment

Environmentally conscious behaviour: Protecting the environment and the oceans should also be a priority for boaters. Care should therefore be taken not to throw rubbish into the water and to use environmentally friendly fuels.

New Year's resolution 6: Community among water sports enthusiasts

Promote community: Boaters should also work to promote community among water sports enthusiasts in the new year. This can be done by taking part in regattas, going on trips together or supporting environmental protection projects.

New Year's resolution 7: Tidiness on board

Organising the boat: To keep the boat tidy and functional, it is important to tidy up regularly. Certain things should have a fixed place on board.

New Year's resolution 8: Entries in the logbook

Keep a logbook: Keeping a water sports diary can help you track your progress and continuously improve.

New Year's resolution 9: Check the weather forecasts

Keep an eye on weather forecasts: Regularly checking weather forecasts is crucial to prepare for possible weather changes and to be safe on the water.

New Year's resolution 10: Experiences during the charter trip

Discover more local cuisine and culture: You could plan to visit regional restaurants and markets during your charter cruise in order to learn about the culinary and cultural specialities of each place. This can not only broaden your culinary horizons, but also create a deeper understanding of the local culture and offer unforgettable experiences.
