LPX Gore-Tex 2.0 from MustoLightweight and well protected

The new LPX from Musto is super light.
The Musto LPX GTX is a very lightweight oilskin for inshore trips. The jacket and salopette offer plenty of freedom of movement, high wearing comfort and well thought-out details. The ePE membrane from Gore-Tex is new. It is particularly thin and light and does not require PFAS.

Topics in this article

The LPX series is aimed at water sports enthusiasts who are travelling in coastal and inland areas and attach great importance to freedom of movement. Unlike heavy offshore gear for long trips, the LPX collection is designed for activity. Musto relies on modern material technology: the new Gore-Tex ePE membrane is not only lighter and more robust, but also more environmentally friendly than previous models. The absence of PFAS and the lower carbon footprint are in line with current sustainability standards.

The salopette has relatively wide foot openings - you can theoretically wear boots underneath. However, thanks to the wide Velcro fastening, the opening can also be closed tightly around the leg when board shoes are worn. This works well. There is a wide, slightly elasticated adjustment at the hips. The trousers can be easily adjusted to your own size. Very good freedom of movement despite the not too wide cut. There is an integrated stretch insert at the shoulders, which is very comfortable. The material is light and the jacket fits well. The cuffs are simple, but have some stretch and allow good adjustment.

Hood with fiddly adjustment

The hood adjustment works with plastic fittings into which you have to clamp rubber bands. You have to pull and then actively clamp the straps. You need two hands to do this. It's not intuitive, you have to look. It's annoying in rough weather. However, once adjusted, it only needs to be put on or taken off, which relativises the problem.

How do you like this article?

The hood can be adjusted in two ways. If you adjust it correctly, which doesn't work the first time, but does on the second attempt, it turns quite well. However, visibility is still slightly restricted. The hood is detachable - you may need to remove it for inshore regatta sailing anyway. Then everything is fine.

Lightweight and designed for inshore use

The collar is not super high, which is normal for an inshore oilskin. Nevertheless, it provides very good protection. There are side pockets in the salopette, two pockets on the thighs and reinforcements on the knees and seat. No heat pockets.

The material is very light and the workmanship is very good. Apart from the hood, the LPX Gore-Tex 2.0 makes a very good impression.

Conclusion: Super light, super good

The Musto LPX Gore-Tex 2.0 is an excellent inshore jacket with lightweight material, a good fit and well thought-out details. However, the hood adjustment is a minor flaw. Prices: The jacket costs 599 and the salopette 639 euros. That makes a total of 1,238 euros.
