New equipment appears every month in the water sports industry. However, it is also worth taking a closer look at tried and tested items. The self-inflating lifebuoy from OneUp is particularly impressive in terms of safety thanks to its compact design. At the same time, mobile phones need to be supplied with power at all times. We have gone on a search and present three practical products relating to safety and useful innovations on board.

Compact lifebuoy for travelling

The OneUP Pocket is a handy rescue throwing device the size of a 0.5 litre can and weighs just 370 grams. It is a practical addition to equipment for leisure activities on or near the water. On contact with water, the ring inflates automatically and provides 110 newtons of buoyancy, which is equivalent to around 11 kilograms of buoyancy. The eye-catching yellow colour ensures good visibility. Suitable for boats, camping, beach visits or fishing trips - wherever quick help is needed in an emergency. Please note: The approved OneUP Nautic Pro version is required for use on Swiss waters, including Lake Constance

Corrosion-free ball valve

The hull diffusers and seacocks from Truedesign have one major advantage: they are made of plastic and are therefore not susceptible to corrosion. However, there is also a disadvantage: with the same internal diameter, the nylon composite ball valves have larger dimensions than comparable valves made of brass or bronze. Truedesign now also offers a version in a compact design. The ball valves in 1/2 and 3/4 inch can therefore also be used in tight spaces. The clear difference in size can be seen in the sketch.

Loaded and secured

The Scanstrut Aura SC-CW-12F wireless charging cradle offers a practical solution for charging smartphones on board. The waterproof device combines inductive charging with a secure holder for use at sea. The phone remains reliably fixed in place when the boat moves. The Aura charging cradle works with an input voltage of 10 to 30 volts and is therefore suitable for standard 12 and 24 volt vehicle electrical systems. The charger delivers up to 2 amps of output current with a charging power of 10 watts. The IPX6 certification confirms its waterproofness. Drainage openings allow water to run off.

Editor Test & Technology

Ole Puls was born in Schleswig in 1999. He quickly swapped the football pitch for the Schlei and grew up sailing a wide variety of dinghies and tall ships. From his grandfather's self-built wooden opti and a Europe to a 49er and an X362 Sport, there was a lot to choose from. After leaving school, Puls decided to train as a boat builder at the high-tech shipyard Knierim Yachtbau in Kiel in 2016. He successfully completed his training in 2020 and stayed at the shipyard as a bachelor. In 2022, he decided not only to build boats, but also to test them. Since then, he has been working for Delius Klasing Verlag in the Test & Technology section of BOOTE magazine. The training he received and the eye for detail and quality of workmanship he acquired help him immensely today. Even though he is a regatta sailor with heart and soul, he feels right at home on motorboats and enjoys separating his professional and private lives and yet combining them. Because we all know one thing: there is simply no better place to be than on the water.
