A bright torch isn’t just part of the emergency kit on board. Models that take up little space yet still provide enough light for the many quick tasks in the harbour, whilst at anchor or below deck are particularly handy. Light for small jobs
According to the manufacturer, the floodlight delivers a maximum of 1,500 lumens. This makes it easier to use whilst sailing, as an existing USB power adaptor, a power bank or the on-board power supply will suffice. Olight also specifies an IPX7 protection rating. This provides important protection against splashes, rain or a wet cockpit bag. However, the torch should still be rinsed and dried after contact with salt water.
UV light and lasers as supplementary treatments
UV light can make stains, marks or fluorescent markings visible. The green laser acts as a pointer, for example for a brief briefing in port or to highlight a detail whilst on shore. When driving at night, targeted lighting that is as dim as possible is crucial to ensure that your eyes remain adapted to the dark. For day-to-day tasks on board, however, the ArkPro can be a useful addition: small enough to take with you, and bright enough to be of help not just in an emergency.
