The Italian "Guardia di Finanza" has put new patrol boats into service. The FB38 and FB43 types were designed by Fabio Buzzi.

The design of the nine boats benefits from Buzzi's many years of experience in the development of fast patrol boats. Their slender shape with the deep V and fully enclosed wheelhouse enable operating speeds of up to 58 knots.

The new fleet consists of four FB38s (length: 11.50 metres) with an extended cockpit, four FB38s with a shorter cockpit and larger working area on the foredeck and a 13.10-metre-long FB43 boat. All are equipped with extensive navigation and communication electronics from the manufacturer Raymarine.

The "Guardia di Finanza" is a mixture of customs and border protection authority. It is responsible for combating financial crime and smuggling in Italy.

Most of the boats will be deployed on the northern Italian lakes, such as Lake Garda. The large FB43 boat, on the other hand, will be deployed specifically to guard the presidential residence in Castel Porziano, which is located around 25 kilometres south of Rome directly on the Tyrrhenian Sea.

Christian Tiedt was born in Hamburg in 1975, but grew up in the northern suburbs of the city - except for numerous visits to the harbor, North Sea and Baltic Sea, but without direct access to water sports for a long time. His first adventures then took place on dry land: With the classics from Chichester, Slocum and Co. After completing his vocational training, his studies finally gave him the opportunity (in terms of time) to get active on the water - and to obtain the relevant licenses. First with cruising and then, when he joined BOOTE in 2004, with motorboats of all kinds. In the meantime, Christian has been able to get to know almost all of Europe (and some more distant destinations) on his own keel and prefers to share his adventures and experiences as head of the travel department for YACHT and BOOTE in cruise reports.
