Helly Hansen has recalled four life jackets: Navigare Comfort, Navigare Scan, Junior Safe+ and Kid Safe+. These waistcoats do not meet the safety standards and harbour a risk of drowning. The manufacturer is asking owners to stop using the products immediately.
The recall only affects the models mentioned with certain production numbers. All other Helly Hansen lifejackets fulfil the safety requirements and can still be used. Helly Hansen does not specify the exact defect responsible for the recall. The statement only says: "Due to a production problem at a third-party supplier, certain Helly Hansen lifejacket lines - in particular Navigare Comfort, Navigare Scan, Junior Safe+ and Kid Safe+ - do not meet our safety standards and pose a drowning risk to users".
The Navigare Comfort models in all four buoyancy categories for water sports enthusiasts from 30 to over 90 kilograms are affected. The manufacturer has identified certain serial numbers that are affected by the recall. The same applies to the Navigare Scan, JR Safe+ and Kid Safe+ models. The affected batches can be found at Helly Hansen and here in the gallery. Anyone who has an affected waistcoat can either destroy it properly according to the instructions and ask for a refund with a photo of the waistcoat that has been rendered unusable. The waistcoats can also be sent to the manufacturer.
