em-trak X100 - modern radio with extensive smart connectivity

The em-trak X100 combines VHF/DSC radio with AIS technology and relies on extended connectivity via WiFi and Bluetooth. The Connect-X interface allows up to ten smart devices such as smartphones, tablets or smartwatches to be integrated. This integration enables flexible use, as incoming messages and signals can be received anywhere on board without anyone having to be directly at the radio.

A key safety feature is the MOB (man overboard) function, which works via the connection to the paired smart device. As soon as this is interrupted, an alarm is triggered with the current position. Internal on-board communication between the connected devices can also be used via the X100, which is particularly helpful during harbour manoeuvres or at sea.

All data available in the NMEA2000 network, including depth and speed values, is also forwarded to the connected smart devices via the WiFi interface. The combination of Class D VHF radio and AIS technology enables direct collision warning, while the quick calling function allows other vessels to be specifically radioed via an AIS signal.

The radio has an integrated GPS and VHF antenna as well as a built-in splitter so that AIS and VHF can be used via a single antenna. According to the manufacturer, the colour display is easy to read even in bright sunlight. The CLEAR-WAVE digital audio technology ensures good sound quality.

The housing is waterproof and resistant to salt water, making the device suitable for maritime use. It can be installed using both flush and surface mounting. Compatibility with existing smart devices should be checked before use. The RRP is 1,889 euros. The system will be available in spring 2025.

More information about the radio is available here.

Eagle Marine 360° Surround View - all-round visibility for safe manoeuvring

Six of these cameras must be installed.

The Eagle Marine 360° Surround View offers a seamless all-round view for boats, making mooring much easier. Six full HD cameras are positioned to create a 360° bird's eye view and enable a precise assessment of the surroundings. This enables potential dangers to be recognised at an early stage and damage to be avoided.

The cameras are made of V4A stainless steel, are IP68-certified and blend seamlessly into the aesthetics with their discreet design. A special feature is the swivelling cameras, which allow flexible adjustment without additional angle adapters. The web application allows remote access via smartphone or tablet, enabling users to make settings and check the status of the cameras.

The 3D view forms the basis for future AI-based driver assistance systems, which should enable active manoeuvring support. It can already be easily integrated into existing systems via network or HDMI interfaces. Especially in conjunction with Nextfour Q plotters, intuitive touch operation is offered, which makes it easier to change camera perspectives.

The control unit serves as a platform for processing various sensor signals and maritime data, making it possible to provide extended monitoring and assistance functions in the long term. The Eagle Marine 360° Surround View is therefore not only a valuable aid to manoeuvring, but also a technological basis for future developments in maritime navigation. They are also more affordable compared to other manufacturers. The price is 5,355 euros.

You can find more information about the camera here.

Editor Test & Technology

Ole Puls was born in Schleswig in 1999. He quickly swapped the football pitch for the Schlei and grew up sailing a wide variety of dinghies and tall ships. From his grandfather's self-built wooden opti and a Europe to a 49er and an X362 Sport, there was a lot to choose from. After leaving school, Puls decided to train as a boat builder at the high-tech shipyard Knierim Yachtbau in Kiel in 2016. He successfully completed his training in 2020 and stayed at the shipyard as a bachelor. In 2022, he decided not only to build boats, but also to test them. Since then, he has been working for Delius Klasing Verlag in the Test & Technology section of BOOTE magazine. The training he received and the eye for detail and quality of workmanship he acquired help him immensely today. Even though he is a regatta sailor with heart and soul, he feels right at home on motorboats and enjoys separating his professional and private lives and yet combining them. Because we all know one thing: there is simply no better place to be than on the water.
