Raymarine, one of the best-known suppliers of marine electronics, has launched a free software update (version 3.0) for its Alpha performance instruments. The update includes these new functions

The Alpha series is characterised by large touchscreen instruments that now enable control of Raymarine Evolution autopilots. The update includes a number of new features that allow users to select different autopilot modes, including steering by course, wind and waypoint. This is particularly important for skippers who want to navigate in changeable conditions and dynamically adjust their routes.

New navigation mode

One of the new features is the navigation mode, which provides a 3D visualisation of the boat in relation to the planned route. This visual support includes helpful information on course deviations and turning points. The system also offers controls for avoiding obstacles and continuing the route. This allows the skipper to react flexibly to unexpected situations.

The Alpha system also supports the visualisation of navigation, environmental and system data through customisable digital and analogue displays and histograms. This functionality is complemented by the integration of network video sources, such as FLIR thermal imaging cameras and Raymarine cameras.

Customisable dashboard from Raymarine

The Alpha series instruments offer a fully customisable dashboard. The user interface is designed to be intuitive, allowing quick and easy operation via both the integrated touchscreen and a Raymarine Axiom chartplotter. The installation requires only a single cable for data and power, reducing the installation effort. Overall, the 3.0 update represents a further development for the Alpha Performance instruments, offering boaters improved control and insight into their navigation data.

Ole Puls was born in Schleswig in 1999. He quickly swapped the football pitch for the Schlei and grew up sailing a wide variety of dinghies and tall ships. From his grandfather's self-built wooden opti and a Europe to a 49er and an X362 Sport, there was a lot to choose from. After leaving school, Puls decided to train as a boat builder at the high-tech shipyard Knierim Yachtbau in Kiel in 2016. He successfully completed his training in 2020 and stayed at the shipyard as a bachelor. In 2022, he decided not only to build boats, but also to test them. Since then, he has been working for Delius Klasing Verlag in the Test & Technology section of BOOTE magazine. The training he received and the eye for detail and quality of workmanship he acquired help him immensely today. Even though he is a regatta sailor with heart and soul, he feels right at home on motorboats and enjoys separating his professional and private lives and yet combining them. Because we all know one thing: there is simply no better place to be than on the water.
