The BOOTE editorial team has assembled a boat from Bauhaus itself. In this craft boat special, we show you how to build your own console boat using a kit and your own tools. The screwdrivers follow the assembly instructions for their work.
To follow everything step by step, we have photo instructions and videos for you.
We bought the DIY package with the Pegazus 450 from Bauhaus. In the first part, we get a first impression of the material supplied: steering position, railing, anchor roller, bathing ladder and sunbed package with storage boxes and a complete set of cushions. Now you can get started! You can proceed step by step with the assembly instructions - this is also how the BOOTE workshop does it. Let's start with the assembly of the steering position.
A must on an open boat - like on our Pegazus 450 - is a non-slip structure on the floor and stable, well-placed handrails. When it comes to installation, it's all about the dimensions. Our version comes with double bow and stern railings as well as all the screws and washers required for assembly. However, the screwdriver must have the necessary tools himself. You can find out what you need to bear in mind in the following article:
Safety comes first: In this article, the BOOTE testers explain what is important for a swim ladder. An anchor roller and storage boxes also find their place next to it. Drilling, screwing and gluing!
It's the hour of technology: here the BOOTE mechanics install everything the outboard needs. This included: starter battery, engine instruments, single-lever control for throttle and gearbox and a wheel steering system.
When it came to motorisation, we opted for the larger of the variants offered by Bauhaus - Tohatsu's 50 hp MFS50A ETL with electric start and power trim. When installing the engine, the guiding principle should be "Read and measure first, then drill." should be followed.
We test the assembled Pegazus 450 in comparison with the OceanBay MM-450/RaJo MM 450 open. Both boats in the 4.50 metre class have different characteristics. You can find out in our last article whether our craft boat is convincing during the test drive:
