Hissing, crackling, whistling - what would radio be without its background noise? Better understandable, at least that's how it looks Icom. With its new IC-M423 and M91D devices, the manufacturer claims to be able to eliminate this noise by up to 90 % with active suppression, known as noise cancelling, thus significantly optimising intelligibility.
Handling should also be improved thanks to new, more intuitive operation. And if the M91 handset does go overboard, the €389 device can be fished out again even in the dark - because it not only floats, but also starts to flash and beep when it comes into contact with water. If a person is also attached to the radio, there are also alternative DSC functions thanks to the integrated GPS.
The stationary system should not actually fall overboard, but if necessary it can also withstand 30 minutes at a depth of one metre (IP X7). More importantly, a second intercom station (230 euros) can be connected as an option, as can a deck loudspeaker, an external GPS and an AIS transponder for direct contacts. Class D DSC and an NMEA connection are standard. 399 euros.
