The renovation of older boats, also known as "refits", is currently the centre of attention.is very popular with many owners. The current used boat marketoffers bargain hunters good opportunities, quality boats that were once highly prized can be bought for a "small mark". A 30-foot motor cruiser of renowned pedigree in need of renovation can quickly change hands for less than 20,000 euros, and open sports boats from the 1990s are often available for less than 5,000 thalers.
But the purchase alone is usually not enough. Depending on the age and condition, more or less work needs to be done. Reason enough for us to tackle a new refit project and overhaul an old boat from the ground up.
We found what we were looking forat Gründl-Bootsimport Gründl-Boatsimport in Bönningstedt, north of Hamburg: A 20s Wellcraft Cuddy-Cabin from the early 90s was leading a dreary second-hand existence there until we discovered it.Using the example of this average boat we want to show what can still be done with supposed "soul sellers". Unlike previous do-it-yourself projects, where the main aim was to make the boatback on the water as cheaply as possible this time we are working together with well-known companies from the refit scene to show the possibilities of professional suppliers and derive tips and tricks for do-it-yourselfers.
These include, among others M. and H. von der Linden which Wrede shipyard , Furuno , Yachticon , Rüegg , Rupes , Van Claes , Aqua Signal and Volvo Penta to name but a few - other partners, particularly from the areas of soft top and upholstery work, are cordially invited to join us. In addition to the classic refit work, such as technical repairs or repainting, the renovation programme also includes conversion work in the interior and cabin area, completely new upholstery, repowering, windows, hatches, deck coverings, electrics and electronics and, last but not least, a new, contemporary trailer.
Each trade is documented in detail in all individual steps using video and photo documentation and shown to our readers, i.e. you, in the form of a refit series and a DIY video series. This means that everyone can pick out the individual topic that is of most interest to them. We will of course be showing you the boat, or rather the various stages of the refit, at the most important water sports trade fairs and would like to invite you to attend today.
