With Abraclean, the abrasives manufacturer Mirka is introducing a patented cleaning pad for removing sanding dust. The pad is attached to a random orbital sander with dust extraction and guided over the surface being worked on.
With Abraclean, Mirka is addressing anyone who wants to sand and then paint GRP surfaces, wood or composite materials. According to the manufacturer, conventional dust binding cloths leave residues and do not completely remove fine particles. The new pad is intended to offer an alternative cleaning method: It is made of coarse-pored, medium-hard foam and works dry as well as chemical-free.
The patented cleaning pad is attached to a random orbital sander with a 150 millimetre disc using a Velcro fastening. The user passes it over the surface after sanding so that the pad loosens the particles and the machine's dust extraction system removes them. According to the manufacturer, Abraclean completely removes fine sanding dust and ensures optimum paint adhesion without the need for solvents.
An additional advantage is its reusability: After use, the pad can be rinsed out with water and dried for reuse. This reduces waste and costs compared to disposable cleaning cloths. The manufacturer does not specify how often a pad can be reused. Abraclean is suitable for all random orbital sanders with a disc diameter of 150 millimetres. A set of four pads costs 56 euros.
