The multifunctional primer from Yachtcare is a practical solution for boat owners who want to carry out quick and uncomplicated repairs or touch-ups on their watercraft. As a one-component epoxy primer, it is suitable for various substrates and can be used both above and below the waterline.

Versatile application options

The grey epoxy-based primer can be used on steel, aluminium, glass fibre reinforced plastic (GRP) and wood. It serves as a primer for antifouling coatings in underwater areas and, according to the manufacturer, can also be used as a base for two-component paint systems. The primer is particularly practical for smaller repairs, partial areas or the treatment of drives and propellers.

Easy processing and fast drying

Application is extremely simple: after thorough cleaning and sanding of the substrate, the primer is sprayed on from a distance of 15 to 20 centimetres. The 400-millilitre spray can is equipped with an adjustable spray head that produces either a wide upright jet or a round, conical spray jet. A major advantage of the Yachtcare multifunctional primer is that it dries quickly. At an ambient temperature of 20 degrees Celsius, the surface is firm to the touch after around 15 minutes and fully hardened after one hour. Even at cooler temperatures of around 12 degrees Celsius, the primer could be sanded in tests after just under two hours without the sandpaper becoming excessively clogged.

Practical properties for boat repairs

The epoxy primer fills small irregularities well and provides a solid base for subsequent coats. Its suitability for underwater use, easy application and short drying time make it possible to carry out repairs quickly and get the boat ready for use again quickly.
