The new Port-Guide app from Delius Klasing makes it easy to find a suitable berth without having to browse through the on-board library. The functionality corresponds to familiar apps for displaying overnight accommodation on land, such as Booking.com: the destination is selected either via the classic search function by entering text - for example "Kiel" - or via the freely zoomable map view, whereby all harbours are provided with markers and can be called up by tapping on them. The coverage is good: on the Baltic coast of Schleswig-Holstein alone, for example, almost all noteworthy harbours are included with around 110 entries - regardless of whether they are clubs and associations, municipal facilities or commercial marinas.
In total, there are more than 3000 harbours throughout Europe and the Caribbean, and the data is constantly being maintained, updated and expanded. The app was developed in co-operation between Delius Klasing Verlag and ADAC-Sportschifffahrt, who have pooled their extensive information for this purpose.
If you want to check how good the odds are for the harbours in your home or holiday destination, you can download the app for free from the Play Store (for Android) or the App Store (for Apple iOS). The functionality of the various features can then be tested using some of the sample harbours included. There is also an intelligent filter function that allows you to enter your own boat dimensions for suitable moorings or criteria for the landside infrastructure. All entries are each described with more than 100 attributes, which - in classically structured submenus - range from photos and harbour plans to tabular information, including details of facilities, opening times, prices and tourist offers. The service information is so detailed that even "small points" such as mooring signs, bread roll service, gas bottle exchange or bicycle hire are taken into account.
You can find the article "Smart harbour search" in BOOTE issue 02/2021 at newsagents or online in the Delius Klasing Shop.
Access to the database can be purchased as a monthly or annual subscription: One month costs 19.99 euros, the whole year is available for 39.99 euros. The Port-Guide app is also part of the ADAC benefits programme. After entering and verifying their membership number, members receive the subscriptions at a reduced preferential price. Another important advantage on board: after installation and map download to smartphone or tablet, the app can be used with full functions and all harbour data even without an internet connection. www.delius-klasing.de , www.skipper.adac.de
