A motorboat was ablaze at the boat refuelling station near Kollmitzberg on the Danube. Four fire brigades were called out, with a total of 60 firefighters.
According to a statement from the Amstetten District Fire Service, a fire broke out at a boat refuelling station on the Danube near Kollmitzberg (Ardagger municipality, Lower Austria) at around 6.17 pm on 11 September. A motorboat was fully ablaze when the fire brigades, having been alerted, arrived – by that point, the flames had already spread to the boat fuel station.
Four fire brigades – Kollmitzberg, Ardagger-Stift, Ardagger-Markt and Stefanshart – were deployed with a total of 60 firefighters. The firefighters quickly managed to extinguish the flames at the petrol station and prevent the fire from spreading further.
Deleted further on land
However, the follow-up fire-extinguishing work on the boat itself proved difficult. Eventually, the motorboat was pulled ashore, where the fire was extinguished. The emergency services deployed a fire service A-boat, teams wearing breathing apparatus and foam.
The emergency services paid particular attention to protecting the waterways: oil booms were deployed to prevent spilled fuel from spreading on the Danube. No one was injured. The Amstetten District Fire Brigade was also on the scene.
No statement has yet been made regarding the cause of the fire; it is still under investigation.
