Five boats are nominated in each of six categories in order to reflect the boat market as realistically as possible. In addition to the size-dependent categories up to 10 metres, up to 14 metres, up to 18 metres and up to 24 metres boat length, there are two further classes for catamarans and the rapidly growing market for electric boats.
The criteria for the award include design, innovation, performance, functionality and value for money. The award winners are selected in several phases. Firstly, boats that have come onto the market in the last twelve months are collected and assessed. The jury tests numerous models in various categories to assess their performance and characteristics under real-life conditions. This includes tests on driving stability, fuel efficiency, drive technology as well as aspects such as space and user-friendliness.
The awards are presented at Boot Düsseldorf and are highly regarded in the industry.
The award aims to promote the best and most innovative boats of the year and provide consumers with guidance when choosing motorised boats.
However, the European Powerboat of the Year Award is not only an opportunity to celebrate outstanding products, but also a platform that drives development and progress in boating technology. The awards are often used as a KPI (Key Performance Indicator) in the industry as they highlight trends and draw the attention of both manufacturers and consumers to new technologies and design features.
Another important aspect of the European Powerboat of the Year Award is the promotion of innovation. Manufacturers who integrate new technologies or sustainable practices into their boats have the opportunity to come to the fore. The award therefore also emphasises those companies that are committed to environmentally friendly solutions, be it through hybrid propulsion, the use of recycled materials or energy-efficient designs.
The award ceremony also attracts media attention and draws a large number of visitors who are interested in the latest trends in the boating industry. Many manufacturers use the award as a marketing tool to promote their products and draw attention to themselves. Winning the award can significantly boost a model's sales figures and enhance its reputation.
Overall, the European Powerboat of the Year Award is an important indicator of quality and innovation in the boating industry, inspiring and informing both the trade public and end consumers.
The prize is awarded by a jury of specialised journalists and experts working for various European boating magazines. (Listed separately below).
