The situation had already become apparent in the early afternoon. Heavy rainfall and a steadily increasing wind meant that there were hardly any visitors left on the pontoons of the world's largest in-water boat show. Events and conferences planned on yachts or outdoors were cancelled at short notice.
At around 5.30 p.m., an exhibition tent in which electronics suppliers and other suppliers were showing their products suffered major damage - the wind had dented the tarpaulins on the front and swept through the tent. Unsecured objects also rolled and blew across the site. The safety of visitors and exhibitors could no longer be guaranteed, so the police had to clear the show.
Shortly after the evacuation, the exhibition management announced that the show would open at 10 a.m. the next day as planned, but that the weather would be monitored very closely in order to be able to react quickly.
