The conditions at Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez were unusually uncomfortable. A German yacht sailed to second place in the Wally class.

Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez attracted 4,000 sailors and 330 yachts to the fashionable harbour town in September to compete against each other over six days. However, the weather did not play ball and caused strong winds for two days in the harbour. The classics sailed for numerous trophies in eleven classes on the four remaining days in still cold and sporty conditions. The coveted Rolex Trophy was won this year by the "Maria Giovanna II" of owner Jean-Pierre Sauvan, which started in the Marconi B class. The Wally field of 15 yachts completed five windy and exciting races, which were dominated by the Italian Antonio Cacace with his Wally 94 "Magic Blue", with second place going to the Wally 100 "Y3K" of Hamburg shipowner Claus-Peter Offen.
