The training boats are fast but safe boats for getting into motorboat racing.
Young people who would like to sit in a real racing boat and get a taste of motorboat racing have the opportunity to do so at the DMYV racing boat school. On 20 and 21 April, the Deutsche Motoryachtverband e.V. (DMYV), in cooperation with the ADAC Hessen/ Thüringen and the WSV Lorch, is organising a racing boat taster course for potential young racers in Lorch on the Rhine.

The weekend course involves sailing a catamaran training boat powered by a 30 hp Tohatsu outboard engine that runs on climate-neutral e-fuel. These boats are regarded as fast but safe entry-level boats in the catamaran racing boat classes.

The theoretical part of the course includes the conditions of motorboat racing, safety, theoretical basics of the driving behaviour of a racing catamaran and engine technology. In practice, the focus is on familiarising yourself with the racing boat and, of course, driving exercises, as well as starting, accelerating and cornering. After successfully completing the practical and theoretical training, each participant can take the licence test, which enables them to obtain a racing boat licence and thus take part in motorboat races. Drivers who have already completed a training course but have not yet acquired their racing licence can also take their exam and complete training laps on this weekend.

The minimum age for this boat class is 14 years. The training takes place on the grounds of the Lorch Water Sports Club, Rheinstraße (B42) in 65391 Lorch am Rhein. The participation fee is 39 euros for participants under the age of 18 and 99 euros for participants aged 18 and over. Catering and accommodation are not included.

Jill Grigoleit was born in Hanover in 1985. An early childhood memory is the large collection of YACHT and SURF magazines from her sailing and surfing enthusiast father. However, growing up in a small Swabian village on the Neckar, she had less to do with water sports in her childhood, apart from a few trips to the Baltic Sea with her family. After studying journalism in Bremen and Hanover, she went into television for a few years. Through a few lucky coincidences, she ended up on the water in 2011 and then returned to the written word professionally. For over ten years, she lived with her family on a houseboat in their own harbor south of Hamburg and wrote a book about houseboat building and life with children on the water. Since 2020, she has mainly been writing travel reports and features about people who live and work on and near the water for BOOTE. She has been a permanent member of the Delius Klasing water sports editorial team since January 2024.
