The non-profit organisation was set up as part of the "Monaco, Capital of Yachting" initiative by the Yacht Club de Monaco (YCM) and Credit Suisse. The focus is on the creation of the SEA Index. The entries are the result of a formula that was developed under the leadership of Nobiskrug and contains a range of technical data.
In addition to some framework data, the level of CO2 emissions during operation is primarily taken into account. Once a value has been determined for a yacht using the formula, it is compared with benchmark data for the respective size segment. The Superyacht Eco Association (SEA) awards stars, up to a maximum of three, for correspondingly environmentally friendly performance. The yacht can then boast a flag.
SEA announces that the index is a collaborative effort between various industry players, from shipyards to owners. The aim is to encourage the yachting industry to develop new solutions and reduce the ecological footprint of superyachts. Their motto: only things that can be measured can be improved.
The founding venue was the YCM clubhouse in Port Hercule. The Yacht Club de Monaco counts 800 superyacht owners among its members, 37 of whom are in possession of top 100 formats. Founding capital was provided by Prince Albert II of Monaco, among others, who continues the efforts of the Princely House to explore and protect the ocean.
