The German Superyacht Conference is moving back to its home port of Hamburg. The news was greeted with joy by the industry. After two successful guest years in Düsseldorf, BOOTE EXCLUSIV editor-in-chief Martin Hager decided to bring the internationally recognised event back to the Hanseatic city. "The GSC will once again take place on the last Thursday in February," says Hager. "We did a lot of research and the feedback from participants in previous years led us back to a date in February that is separate from trade fairs."

The event team will not be experimenting with the location either. The conference will take place in the tried-and-tested Elbkuppel at the Hotel Hafen Hamburg, with Michael Antwerpes once again hosting the event, and the selection of speakers for the eighth edition of the conference will be particularly high-calibre. BOOTE EXCLUSIV is delighted that Wally founder and CEO Luca Bassani has agreed to take part, and he is sure to share numerous anecdotes from his eventful yachting life in addition to the "History of Wally". Lürssen's Sales Manager Michael Bre- man, another yachting veteran, will take to the GSC stage. His exciting topic is "Size matters - How big is a mega yacht?". Chris Gartner, who is in command of the 106 metre long "Black Pearl", has also confirmed his attendance. The experienced Dynarigg specialist explains why the Ken Freivokh-Nuvolari-Lenard design is currently the greenest yacht in the world. If, contrary to expectations, Chris Gartner sails "Black Pearl" in the Caribbean, owner's representative and project manager Derek Munro will stand in for him. US yacht designer Bill Tripp will explain how the movements of large-format vessels can be optimised to increase comfort on board. Andreas Schipper, Operations Manager of GL Yachtverglasung, will shed light on the trend topic of "glass design in yacht building", also using a number of references such as "Sailing Yacht A". With Torsten Steinbrecher, we have lured an entertainment expert to the Elbkuppel. The Managing Director of Qualtron GmbH will talk about "Cinemas on board" and the "Status quo of a multimedia sector hungry for innovation".

As usual, the number of participants is limited to 150 guests. There will also be networking afterwards, as well as an after-conference party at the BOOTE EXCLUSIV editorial office. Registration is possible via the GSC website: superyacht-conference.com

Martin Hager

Editor in Chief YACHT

Martin Hager is editor-in-chief of the titles YACHT and BOOTE EXCLUSIV and has been working for Delius Klasing Verlag for 20 years. He was born in Heidelberg in 1978 and started sailing at the age of six, in an Opti of course. This was soon followed by 420s, Sprinta Sport and 470s, which he also sailed on the regatta course with his brother. His parents regularly took him on charter trips through the Greek and Balearic Islands. Even at a young age, it was clear to him that he wanted to turn his passion for water sports into a career. After graduating from high school and completing an internship at the Rathje boatbuilding company in Kiel, it was clear that he did not want to become a classic boatbuilder. Instead, he successfully studied shipbuilding and marine engineering in the Schleswig-Holstein state capital and focused on yacht design wherever he could. His diploma thesis dealt with the “Testing of a new speed prediction method for sailing yachts”. In 2004, the superyacht magazine BOOTE EXCLUSIV was looking for an editor with technical and nautical background knowledge, a position that was perfect for Martin Hager. The application was successful and a two-year traineeship was arranged. After twelve years as an editor, the editorial team changed and he took over responsibility for BOOTE EXCLUSIV as editor-in-chief in 2017. After long-time YACHT editor-in-chief Jochen Rieker moved to the role of publisher, Martin Hager also took over the position of editor-in-chief of Europe's largest sailing magazine YACHT, which is celebrating its 120th anniversary this year, at the beginning of 2023. When he's not working on topics for the two water sports titles, Martin Hager likes to go out on the water himself - preferably with kite and wingfoil equipment or on a little after-work trip across the Alster.
