No country builds more mega yachts - over 300 in 2012. No country has a larger shipyard landscape - over 50 from the north to the tip of the boot. And the BOOTE EXCLUSIV editorial team has travelled to no other country more often - it feels like a hundred times in the last five years. We are talking - si capisce! - Italy. Yachts, designs, furniture and personalities from the most productive and perhaps most important yachting country in the world form the focus of this issue.
Diane M. Byrne was travelling on nine decks. On the one hand, she inspected Palumbo's construction number one - 54 metres at a low-budget price - and the 61-metre "Diamonds Are Forever" from busy owner John Staluppi, with whom Byrne has almost become friends - she has sailed on so many of his yachts. Martin Hager, on the other hand, chased a Mangusta 105 across the turbulent Mediterranean, had it explained to him why the new Arcadia serves as a shuttle for professional cyclists and what Perini Navi's recipe for success is. We also rode the Ferretti 750, probably the new top seller from Forli, and visited what is probably Italy's most exclusive warehouse on Lake Iseo.
After the 60-metre-long "Yogi" sank off Greece, the industry is puzzling over the causes. At Proteksan Turquoise in Tuzla, where "Yogi" was built, they at least have a conclusive theory: Hayati Kamhi, one of the shipyard owners, told us exclusively - three weeks before he died from causes that were still unknown at the time of going to press. Out of respect, we are not publishing an interview with Kamhi as planned, but have decided to cover the topic. Also out of respect.

Report
"Yogi": 60 metres sank in heavy seas in the Aegean. The sinking of the 60-metre-long "Yogi" off Greece shocked the megayacht scene - the cause and background will probably remain unclear. At least the shipyard is certain: "We built it well." Did the crew make mistakes?
"Hemisphere"
Pendennis: The British delivered the world's largest sailing catamaran. After seven years of construction, the 44-metre-long "Hemisphere" is the largest sailing catamaran in the world. Pendennis completed the Van Peteghem-Lauriot-Prévost design for American owners with a passion for diving.
