Do you know Torqeedo motors previously only with a maximum drive power of 8 hp, this is now changing. With the Deep Blue, the company is now building an outboard motor with 55 kW (75 hp), which it claims corresponds to a drive power of 80 hp. The Deep Blue was presented in Holland at METS, the trade fair for boat chandlers and manufacturers. Traditionally, innovations in the boating industry are honoured there with the "Dame Award". This year was no exception.
A total of 115 products from 25 countries were entered. In the end, the new Torqeedo Deep Blue won over the jury. Torqeedo explains this with the special "company-typical advantages" that were transported to the higher performance class. According to the company, these include "outstanding efficiency", with which more power and range can be realised from a limited battery supply.
The GPS-supported on-board computer calculates the remaining range and displays the accessibility, journey time and direction of individually selected destinations. In terms of safety, Torqeedo has adopted the standards of the automotive industry in the areas of battery technology and electrics. The co-operation with Johnson Controls, the world's leading automotive supplier in this segment, was certainly helpful in this respect.
Due to the high-voltage system (325 V DC) of the Deep Blue, the unit will initially be sold exclusively through boat manufacturers, who will install the motor and batteries. The price of the motor system is €17,999. At the same time, Torqeedo is offering a battery block for the Deep Blue with 26 kWh for €28,000. The energy storage system can be purchased as a double installation, giving you 52 kWh of storage capacity for €56,000.
