Electromobility is on everyone's lips. It was therefore to be expected that the market leaders in boat engine construction would at least consider the topic of electric propulsion. Mercury Marine has now presented its Avator outboard motor concept at the Miami Boat Show.
"Electrification is strategically important to us and this concept offers a first look at how we plan to fulfil our commitment to lead the industry in both internal combustion engine products and electric propulsion," says Chris Dress, President of Mercury Marine. "We're taking efficiency to a new level and opening up new ways to enjoy the boating experience."
Tim Reid, Vice President Product Development & Engineering at Mercury Marin also has some words of praise for the new development: "Mercury has the strongest and most robust technology and design teams in the industry creating a new marine propulsion system that expands the brand into new applications. We think features such as easily replaceable batteries and quiet operation will be very attractive to current and prospective boaters."
However, further details about the new Mercury Avator - performance, battery capacity, journey time on a single charge - are not yet known. The new electric motor will not be ready for series production for a good year.
