Electric motors are also becoming increasingly popular on the water. In the higher performance classes, these are not only inboard motors, but increasingly also outboard motors. One of these motors is the Molabo ARIES50, which is specified with a rated mechanical output of 50 kW.
This engine has now received the "New Propulsion Technology of the Year" award at the Electric & Hybrid Marine Expo Europe, beating off competition from three other nominated companies. The inboard system with the same performance already received this award last year.
The special feature of the motors is the touch-safe 48 V voltage in the 50 kW class. According to the manufacturer, this simplifies installation and maintenance and does not require any high-voltage safety measures. The unit is designed as a plug & play system solution and takes very little time to install. Single and twin installations are possible. The outboard motors are available in switching lengths L (51 cm) and XL (64.5 cm) and weigh 120 kg (L version) and 126 kg (XL version) without supply cables.
The battery banks are available in 36 kWh, 48 kWh and 60 kWh versions. On a 7.10 metre long boat with a weight of around 1150, Molabo has stated the following journey times at cruising speed (all figures without guarantee):
The charging times 20% - 80% (of the nominal capacity) with three chargers of 3 kW each are between 2.2 hours and 3.7 hours.
The Electric & Hybrid Marine Awards take place as part of the Electric & Hybrid Marine World Expo. The awards are presented in nine different categories from the electric and hybrid marine sector. The jury consists of journalists and consultants who are active in the international maritime industry.
Molabo is a German company that specialises in the development and manufacture of innovative electric drive technologies. The company was founded in 2016 and is based in Ottobrunn near Munich. An outstanding feature of Molabo technology is the use of low-voltage systems.
