Engines: New products from Volvo Penta - The great lightness from Sweden

The season is still in full swing, but the Swedish engine and drive manufacturerVolvo Penta is already launching new products on the market. As in previous years, the main focus has once again been on increasing comfort.

Whether engines, drives or electronic aids, the new products are designed to make boating easier for owners.

D8 is the name of the new engine from Volvo Penta, which is available withReversing gearbox or IPS drive gives. The basis is aInline six-cylinder diesel from the segment ofVolvo Truck. As this is aAluminium motorit has in all its variants a Dual-circuit cooling. The aim is to avoid corrosion damage in advance.

The diesel draws its power - optionally 550 hp or 600 hp - from7.7 litre displacement. He is supported by aTurbocharger. Special feature: In contrast to the IPS variants (D8-IPS700 and D8-IPS800), the D8-550 and D8-600 (for boats with shaft systems) do not have an additional compressor.

Volvo Penta explains this by saying that the IPS drive requires more torque in the lower speed range than a shaft drive.

In order to reduce emissions and fuel consumption by optimising combustion, the designers have given the D8 aultra-modern common rail injection missed.
