The British engine manufacturer Perkins Marine is presenting its new series of marine engines at the Seawork International 2025 trade fair in Southampton. The engines are designed to be suitable for both commercial and leisure boats and fulfil current and future emissions regulations.

The centrepiece of the new series is the M245C, a six-cylinder diesel engine with an output of 249 hp (183 kW). In addition, Perkins is also developing the smaller M175C and M200C models. All three engines are part of the company's comprehensive development programme. The new drives are designed for flexible installation in various boat types. According to the engine manufacturer, the focus is on simple installation, both for new builds and when retrofitting existing boats.

Testing under tough conditions

The new engine platform is currently still undergoing development and testing. These are taking place at the company's headquarters in Wimborne, around 16 kilometres north-west of Bournemouth, where the company has been building marine engines since the 1960s. Practical tests on commercial workboats are also planned in order to check the performance and durability of the engines under real conditions. Series production of the new engine series is scheduled to start in 2026. Perkins plans to accept the first orders from the fourth quarter of 2025.

Robust technology for harsh environments

According to Perkins, the new engines are designed for use in demanding maritime environments. They are designed to work reliably both in coastal waters and on the high seas. Visitors to Seawork International can take a look at the M245C at stand E35. Perkins will also be exhibiting the E44 auxiliary diesel.

Ole Puls was born in Schleswig in 1999. He quickly swapped the football pitch for the Schlei and grew up sailing a wide variety of dinghies and tall ships. From his grandfather's self-built wooden opti and a Europe to a 49er and an X362 Sport, there was a lot to choose from. After leaving school, Puls decided to train as a boat builder at the high-tech shipyard Knierim Yachtbau in Kiel in 2016. He successfully completed his training in 2020 and stayed at the shipyard as a bachelor. In 2022, he decided not only to build boats, but also to test them. Since then, he has been working for Delius Klasing Verlag in the Test & Technology section of BOOTE magazine. The training he received and the eye for detail and quality of workmanship he acquired help him immensely today. Even though he is a regatta sailor with heart and soul, he feels right at home on motorboats and enjoys separating his professional and private lives and yet combining them. Because we all know one thing: there is simply no better place to be than on the water.
