Everything is new in 2012: the old 8.1GI is replaced by the V8-380. Compared to the old one, the new engine (380 hp) has 5 hp more than its predecessor. The engineers at Volvo Penta reduced the displacement to 6 litres. The bore and stroke are now 101.6 mm and 91.9 mm respectively. The V8 is made powerful by a bottom-mounted camshaft with variable adjustment. The two aluminium cylinder heads each contain two valves per combustion chamber with steel roller finger followers, which enable the gas change for the controlled explosion. Two electric petrol pumps and a pressure regulator ensure sufficient fuel pressure. The fuel filter with water separator ensures that only clean petrol reaches the injection nozzles. With multipoint petrol injection, catalytic converters and lambda-monitored combustion, the eight-cylinder meets the EPA 4-star emission guidelines.

According to the data sheet, the maximum engine speed is 6000 rpm. Considering that the 8.1GI should not turn more than 4600 rpm, this is an enormous increase. The V8 is equipped with dual-circuit cooling as standard. Driving in salt water regions is therefore possible without hesitation. The V8-380 is supplied with a duoprop drive. The latter can be ordered with gear ratios of 2.14:1 and 1.95:1. The manufacturer gives the weight of the complete system as 488 kg - a saving of around 100 kg compared to its predecessor. The new V8 becomes your property for an impressive 38,437 euros.
