The new generation of outboards with 25 and 30 hp is lighter, more fuel-efficient, easier to maintain and offers a wide range of new options.

The new engines have a 3-cylinder engine with electronic fuel injection and are supplied with an interface to Mercury SmartCraft digital technology as standard. This makes it easy to connect digital instruments and mobile devices via VesselView Mobile.

"Mercury's new 25- and 30-hp platform brings new capabilities and a better consumer experience to a variety of recreational and commercial boats," said Chris Drees, president of Mercury Marine. "The new engines in this range are not only lighter, faster and quieter, they also give boaters what they've been asking for with exciting new options like digital technologies and an ergonomically positioned tiller."

With a weight starting at 60 kilograms, the engines are said to be 16 per cent lighter than their predecessors. The outboards are available in three versions: the 25 and 30 hp FourStroke and 25 hp SeaPro models are particularly suitable for 3.30 to 4.80 metre long inflatable and work boats. The introduction of the 25 ProKicker model is primarily intended to fulfil the demand for better trolling control for larger boats. The engines are available either as manual starters with tiller control or electric starters for remote control. The tiller models are equipped with an award-winning, 58.5 cm long, ergonomically designed steering tiller that can be adapted for right or left-handed operation.

In addition, the engines are said to be significantly easier to maintain and have the option for complete ship integration with SmartCraft technology. "Routine maintenance out of the water has never been easier," said Jim Hegert, Senior Category Manager. "The new oil change system has a drip tray under the oil filter to catch any drips, and water can be drained quickly from the fuel filter without tools."

With the SmartCraft interface, it is also possible to display engine data on the on-board instruments or a plotter. "The SmartCraft instruments provide essential engine data at the touch of a button and anglers can select their trolling speed in increments of 10 rpm with the Troll Control function," says Hergert.
