Market leader Mercury is launching new Verado engines with ten cylinders and 350 to 400 hp. The electronics should be optimally compatible with the boat.

Mercury has added two new 5.7-litre engines with 350 and 400 hp to its Verado range. What makes them special: According to the manufacturer, they are the first V10 engines in the industry. The engines are said to be not only powerful, but also efficient and quiet. The two Verado V10s weigh 316 kilograms and come with the same 26-inch installation space as the V8 outboards. This should ensure maximum compatibility with current boat types.

"These outboard engines deliver full power on standard fuel (95 RON) and are equipped with efficiency-enhancing technologies, lean-burn fuel injection and closed-loop control, as well as ARO (Advanced Range Optimisation)," says a Mercury press release. Adaptive Speed Control maintains engine speed regardless of load or conditions. "This makes it easier to drive in high waves and smoother to cruise at low speeds. The new Transient Spark technology adjusts the ignition timing electronically, optimising performance in the lower rev range."

The hydrodynamic transmission is designed to optimise efficiency and performance. The newly developed "Revolution X propeller" with its larger diameter, wider blades and lower gear ratio is designed to perfectly match the V10 Verado.

Outboard engines replace the on-board generator

The Verado V10 engines also offer a number of features on the electronics side: they can be equipped with Mercury "SmartCraft" technology and are optionally available with a dual-mode 48 V / 12 V alternator. This allows them to be seamlessly connected to the Navico Group's Fathom e-Power system. This is an integrated lithium-ion auxiliary power management system. This allows boaters to dispense with an on-board generator system.

The engines are also compatible with a new Mercury electric control system for multi-outboard engines, which is due to be launched in February 2023. According to the manufacturer, it offers optimised steering behaviour, significantly easier rigging and a reduction in energy consumption of more than 50 %. The 150-amp alternator charges the batteries on board quickly and supports the on-board network.

This is Mercury Marine

Mercury Marine, headquartered in Fond du Lac (Wisconsin, USA), was founded in 1939 and claims to be the world's leading manufacturer of propulsion engines for pleasure craft. As a division of the publicly listed Brunswick Corporation, Mercury supplies engines, boats, services and parts for recreational, commercial and government marine applications.
