The new V6 outboards from Mercury do without supercharging. Despite a displacement of 3.4 litres, they are the lightest in their class

Mercury probably didn't want to play its ace in Düsseldorf yet, as its home trade fair in Miami was just around the corner. There the bang followed with thePresentation of the new 175cc, 200cc and 225cc V6 outboardswhich replace the small Verados. The unit is a completely new development, which has incorporated numerous considerations and new ideas.

The result is remarkable in many respects. This was also recognised by theJury of the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) at the 2018 Miami Innovation Awards. The new Mercury came out on top in the outboard category. We were there and of course didn't miss the chance to take a close look at the newcomer during test drives.

Conspicuous innovations

The first conspicuous feature is theVariety of colour combinations - often in two colours and always matched to the colours of the boats. Outboards ex works have never been so colourful. In addition to the classic black, there are now even three shades of white. But that's not all.

You can read the full article about the new outboards from Mercury in the May issue of BOOTE, which will be available in stores from 18 April 2018. Subscribers sooner, of course.
