We tested five models in the new 40 hp outboard class. To find the right motor, you need to pay attention to the details.

It's been nine years since we last looked under the bonnet of the 40 hp class. This fact is almost reason enough for a repeat. What's more, a lot has changed in this class in recent years.

EVINRUDE, HONDA, MERCURY, TOHATSU and YAMAHA took part in the BOOTE outboard motor test with their current 40 hp models.

The last carburettor models have been replaced with modern injection engines and packed with more useful electronics. To ensure that the visual appearance also matches the content, some manufacturers have also worked on the external appearance of their engines. We check what the fresh cell treatment has achieved and how the representatives of the class fare in competition with each other.

Evinrude, Honda, Mercury, Tohatsu and Yamaha accepted the invitation to the outboard motor test organised by BOOTE.

In a direct comparison, we look at fuel consumption, noise levels, acceleration and top speed. We also look at what is possible with them today thanks to electronics.
