"Nammert - Der Bootsversicherer" is a registered trade mark. It stands for an insurance broker from Königs Wusterhausen in Brandenburg, south of Berlin, and its products. The fact that it is not a conventional provider is clear from its aggressive marketing and modern appearance at trade fairs and events. This includes a luxury motorhome branded with Nammert logos and "ambassadors" in maritime outfits, as well as jet ski shows and rides in a Sea Doo Speedster. And anyone who presents themselves in this way must also show their colours. Owner Norman Nammert and his crew at the insurance company do just that. Take the jet ski, for example, a watercraft that many brokers and their insurers do not want to have in their portfolio because they cannot calculate the risk and fear a high loss ratio (theft).
Own tariffs created
Norman Nammert has been an enthusiastic jet skier since 2005 and has been firmly established in the jet ski scene ever since, both in terms of sport with his own racing team (which won a European Championship title in Poland in 2016) and in terms of insurance. When he bought his first jet ski - gripped by passion - he realised that there was no comprehensive insurance for it. So he developed an explicit jet ski tariff himself. Boat tariffs gradually followed. And here, too, Norman Nammert goes his own way, with the aim of insuring what others do not (or no longer) do: from racing boats to mega yachts, from carbon boats to old ladies from 1900 and more. Nammert has even created a separate tariff for eFoils, the trendy electric surfboards. Who is this creative, innovative spirit who says about himself: "I can do nothing but insurance"? The fact is that Norman Nammert has been involved with insurance since his childhood in the former GDR, where his mother Heidrun worked for the state insurance company. The premiums for household contents insurance, for example, were collected from house to house and a stamp was stuck in the insurance booklet as proof of payment, which had to be presented after a claim.
Insurance after the fall of the Berlin Wall
This remained the case until the fall of the Berlin Wall on 9 November 1989, when Norman was 10 years old. His mother seized the opportunity to start her own business. Norman Nammert remembers: "Right after reunification, my parents drove their Trabant to the LVM insurance company in Münster and came back with an Opel Kadett - and a photocopier. I had never seen a machine like that before." From the family home in Bestensee, Heidrun Nammert built up the largest LVM agency in the new federal states with an all-round range of insurance products. These images from his childhood have not faded from Norman Nammert's mind either: "Customers queued up in the stairwell, from the third floor to the street. The kitchen and living room served as waiting rooms, and contracts were written in the bedroom."
After the unexpected death of his mother at the age of just 42 in 2009, Norman Nammert took over her agency and, together with his wife Juliane, continued to develop it with new ideas and changing risk takers. He pushed ahead with digitalisation early on. He wanted to get away from pages and pages of paper documents and complicated routes to insurance cover. He wanted the solutions for water sports enthusiasts to be quick and, above all, simple. Of course, Norman Nammert also needed an insurer willing to go along with his innovative approach. He now seems to have found the ideal partner in Element, another digital insurance company from Berlin.
