At this year's edition of the traditional Pavia-Venice long-distance regatta, multiple world champion Guido Cappellini set a new course record. At the helm of the Team Abu Dhabi racing boat, he completed the 400 kilometre route in just 1 hour, 41 minutes and 45 seconds. This corresponds to an average speed of 207.26 km/h.
The Pavia-Venice Regatta is considered the longest inland waterway race in the world. It leads across the rivers Ticino and Po to the Venice lagoon. Cappellini beat the previous record set by Dino Zantelli in 2005 by exactly 3 minutes. Zantelli had achieved an average speed of 203.34 km/h back then. The winning boat prominently bore the Riva Classiche logo. The traditional Riva brand is closely linked to the history of this regatta. Serafino Riva and Giuseppe Guerini set a record in the outboard class here back in 1931. At that time, they achieved an average speed of 51.66 km/h.
The collaboration between racing driver Guido Cappellini and the Riva boatyard dates back to 2005, the year in which Cappellini set a world speed record on Lake Iseo, on the shores of which the Riva boatyard in Sarnico is located. Now this successful partnership, based on innovation and tradition, has continued with a new course record at the Pavia-Venice Regatta. The winning boat combines state-of-the-art racing technology with the classic design and expertise of Riva.
