Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is getting a new high bridge: The Peenestrom Bridge will be built in Wolgast in the coming years. During the work, there may be obstructions on the water.

As far as traffic is concerned, Wolgast is a bottleneck - both on land and at sea. The existing bascule bridge connects the mainland with the holiday island of Usedom and has Fixed opening hourswhich causes chaos on the road, especially during the holiday season.

42 metres clearance height

A new high bridge with a clearance height of 42 metres is now to provide relief in every respect along the course of the 111 federal road. The project, which is estimated to cost around 420 million euros, is scheduled for completion in 2028 at the earliest. In the meantime, the construction of the suspension bridge will also cause restrictions on the Peene River.

In the current notice to mariners (BfS), the responsible Baltic Sea Waterways and Shipping Authority has provided initial details: According to these, the construction of a bridge pier is planned near the buoy "PN58", which is why the area must be passed at a safe distance with increased attention, caution and consideration.

Floating equipment, divers, barriers

During the work, manoeuvring-impaired vehicles and floating equipment and installations may be used. They are then marked with the appropriate visual signs in accordance with the German Maritime Traffic Regulations and the Collision Prevention Regulations.

Divers must also be expected. In case of doubt, contact can be made on VHF channel 09 (Wolgast Traffic) or 16. Short-term closures of the waterway are possible and will be announced accordingly.

Christian Tiedt was born in Hamburg in 1975, but grew up in the northern suburbs of the city - except for numerous visits to the harbor, North Sea and Baltic Sea, but without direct access to water sports for a long time. His first adventures then took place on dry land: With the classics from Chichester, Slocum and Co. After completing his vocational training, his studies finally gave him the opportunity (in terms of time) to get active on the water - and to obtain the relevant licenses. First with cruising and then, when he joined BOOTE in 2004, with motorboats of all kinds. In the meantime, Christian has been able to get to know almost all of Europe (and some more distant destinations) on his own keel and prefers to share his adventures and experiences as head of the travel department for YACHT and BOOTE in cruise reports.
