The British Virgin Islands are one of the most popular destinations for sailors in the Caribbean. Now there is a new exclusive destination: the newly opened Biras Marina in North Sound on Virgin Gorda - and the plans there go even further.

Virgin Gorda in the north-east of the British Virgin Islands is one of the most popular islands in the beautiful Caribbean archipelago. Although the legendary cocktail Painkiller was not invented here, it is of course still served here, and the rocks of The Baths and the many bays are original Virgin Gorda.

And now the island is also attracting visitors with an additional destination: the brand new Biras Marina. The resort, which opened at the beginning of February, is located in a side arm of the North Sound in the north of Virgin Gorda, nestled in almost completely undeveloped green hills.

Space for yachts of all sizes

Biras Marina claims to be the only marina in the BVIs that has been specially developed for superyachts: Ships up to 50 metres in length and a maximum draught of six metres can moor at the piers - both for longer and shorter periods.

However, the marina is also a suitable destination for regular yachts: twenty mooring buoys are available in the bay in front of the marina for boats up to a maximum length of 20 metres. The available services include water and electricity supply, internet, boat cleaning, a café with bakery and a free hourly shuttle service to Gun Creek harbour.

The marina makes the start

Biras Marina already has two restaurants on land and a catering shop is currently being planned. This also applies to the further expansion of the facility. The concept includes a complete resort with private villas, a farm, additional restaurants, an event area and other services for yachts.

After completing his vocational training, his studies finally gave him the opportunity (in terms of time) to get active on the water - and to obtain the relevant licenses. First with cruising and then, when he joined BOOTE in 2004, with motorboats of all kinds. In the meantime, Christian has been able to get to know almost all of Europe (and some more distant destinations) on his own keel and prefers to share his adventures and experiences as head of the travel department for YACHT and BOOTE in cruise reports.
