So far, the Tisza in north-east Hungary is still a blank slate in the overview of European charter areas. This will change next year: The river, whose German name is Tisza, will be spruced up for water tourism at great expense by the start of the 2020 holiday season.
The state project, which includes the construction of 12 moorings and harbours as well as a fleet of 20 houseboats, is worth 15 million euros. The contract for the construction and operation of this charter fleet has now been awarded to the Nicols shipyard from France, which is well established in the market.
Two charter bases are planned: In Kisköre and in Tokaj, around 140 river kilometres away, after which the famous Tokaj wine-growing region is named. The licence-free and congestion-regulated area is around two hours' drive from the capital Budapest and five from Vienna. Nicols is also offering a new base in Kerkdriel in the Netherlands this year. www.nicols.de
