D-Marin Mandalina at the gates of Šibenik is one of the best marinas in the Adriatic: 429 berths for yachts from 10 to 140 metres in length and every conceivable service for ship and crew. In the old harbour basin in the south-east, yachts of the usual size are moored, including the six motorboats and seven motor cats of the charter company Mare Yachting. In the superyacht harbour to the north, up to 79 mega yachts can moor stern to the pier. The ambience is rounded off by the luxurious D-Resort with hotel, exclusive villas, private gardens and stylish pool. www.d-marin.com
Mooring here means being in the centre of life. There are about a dozen mooring places on the Šibenik promenade. If these are full, you can go alongside to the north. There are no services other than drinking water, but there are plenty of cafés, bars and restaurants in the immediate vicinity. And the Republic of Croatia Square (market) with the city's most famous building, the Cathedral of St James, is just a few minutes' walk away.
About eight kilometres north of Šibenik, on a branch of the Krka, lies the small village of Zaton, dominated by the church of St. Roka, which can be seen from afar. There are about six guest moorings with mooring lines on the eastern shore, starting at the green harbour light and ending at the northern end of the straight part of the pier. The only box for electricity and water is located slightly to the left in front of Konoba Feral. The centre of Zaton, which is still very unspoilt, has so far been largely spared from mass tourism. There are several restaurants and shops not far from the harbour. Konoba Porat, located at the head of the bay, has a good reputation for traditional fish dishes and seafood.
The picturesque Otter Bay (Vidrovača in Croatian) has been considered one of the best stops on the way to the Krka Falls for years. If you drive upstream, you will find the floating dock about 400 metres before the motorway bridge on the right bank. Guests of the konoba are provided with mooring lines, electricity and water free of charge. You can sit under old trees on the Krka beach. The very clean fresh water is perfect for a swim.
The absolute highlight of the area are the Krka Falls, which are considered the most beautiful waterfalls in Europe and for which you should take a whole day. The best starting point is the ACI Marina Skradin, which offers the services of a modern marina. Skradin has a very interesting old town centre; beautiful views from the ruins of the former fortress. Skradin is the departure point for excursion boats to the Krka waterfalls (Skradinski Buk), which are 4 kilometres away and cannot be approached on one's own keel. Above the falls, boats run to the monastery island of Visovac and to the Roški Falls. Further information and entrance fees at: www.np-krka.hr
