"Programme Director" Jennifer Kärcher points the way to other boating holiday ideas
What is an owner programme and what is its purpose for charter customers? We ask Jennifer Kärcher about "The Moorings yacht owner programme".

BOATSWhat is this " The Moorings yacht owner programme "?
CarpenterThe customer buys a boat from us, which he can use himself for up to 12 weeks a year. The rest of the time we charter out the boat. In return, the owner receives a guaranteed income of 8 to 9 % per year, which the customer can then use to finance his yacht if necessary.

BOATSWhat does the owner have to "bring along"?
CarpenterThe owner can either pay the full purchase price and receive the guaranteed income in full, or he can take out yacht financing from 30 % equity. The financing instalments can be calculated in such a way that they are always repaid from the monthly guaranteed income.

BOATSWhat are the advantages for the boat owner?
CarpenterThe basic idea is that hardly anyone uses their own boat all year round and it is also tied to a specific location. Many boats spend most of the year lying unused in the harbour, but still cause enormous costs for the boat owner: for the berth, insurance or maintenance. This is exactly where our programme comes in.

BOATS: What does that mean in detail?
CarpenterIn our programme, there are no further operational costs for the owner, apart from the monthly financing instalment for the boat, if applicable. We take care of mooring, maintenance, insurance and charter handling. In addition, our owners greatly appreciate the use of other areas and boat types in our fleet.

BOATSAnd what happens if you don't get the boat completely rented out?
CarpenterThis risk lies solely with us. For boats in Croatia, for example, we guarantee the owner a rental income of 8% of the purchase price for around five years. The guaranteed income is fixed for the entire term and is contractually agreed.

How do you like this article?

BOATSAnd what happens after these five years?
CarpenterAt the end of the charter period, the owner can either take over the boat himself at the residual value, which is usually around 50 % of the purchase price, or we can sell the boat for him.

BOATSHow free is the owner in planning his own holiday time? Does he have to follow you, or the charter utilisation of his own boat, completely?
CarpenterNo. The same applies here: first come, first served. - We work with a sophisticated points system in which each owner is entitled to 84 points per year. 42 points for early bookings, for high and low season periods, and a further 42 points for short-term bookings. One day costs one point in the low season and two points in the high season. A maximum of 12 weeks of personal use would therefore be possible in the low season. The highlight here is that he can not only use his own boat, which is located in Croatia, for example, but also an equivalent boat in a completely different area, such as the Caribbean. With the help of this system, he can divide up his booking periods as he wishes, and if his own boat is already occupied in the desired period, he can easily switch to another boat.

BOATS: Is it possible to share the boat and the costs with friends?
CarpenterOur owner programme provides for a maximum of four owners. The points, i.e. the booking days, are then evenly distributed among them. The same applies to the costs, of course. If you want to know more about the Owner programme I would also be happy to welcome you to boot in Düsseldorf.
