The Marina Punat on Krk is the oldest marina in Croatia and, with around 850 berths in the water, also one of the largest. After winning the title of "best Croatian marina" three times in a row between 2008 and 2010, it was awarded the title of Croatian "harbour champion" for the fourth time last year. However, there is no reason for the marina management to rest on its laurels. The expansion of the marina in the northern harbour area with new charter and transit berths is to be completed this year, as is the general refurbishment of the breakwaters and jetties in the marina.
Simply renting out moorings to guests with annual contracts based on length is a thing of the past. Punat offers its permanent guests various package solutions in which, in addition to the length of the boat, the location of the berth in the marina and its facilities are also weighted according to price. In addition to the "basic services" guaranteed on all berths, the "premium package", for example, offers a supervised car parking space in the marina area compared to the basic package, while the "basic parking space" is unguarded in the marina area. The Premium package also includes a live panoramic webcam and a free shuttle to and from Rijeka Airport.
The Premium Comfort package goes one step further, offering a berth with a side jetty in the central part of the marina and thus guaranteeing the shortest distances to all marina services.
The "Premium Plus Package" is reserved for yachts from 17 m in length, which offers a central location and extra-wide access jetties in the spacious harbour basin as well as plenty of space for manoeuvring. In addition, power connections of up to 125 A are available in this marina area.
The already lavish basic services, which are equally available to all packages, are topped by a recently introduced monitoring system for each individual boat, which the marina describes as "proactive care" of the boat. In practice, this is a monitoring system developed by the marina in which each boat of a permanent guest is regularly checked by a marinero, the results of this check, including a photo, are stored electronically and the data is sent to the boat owner by e-mail on a daily basis.
The inspection of the boat consists of checking the waterline, the condition of the bow, stern and mooring lines, the position of the fenders, the condition of the boat's tarpaulins and hatches as well as the power and water connections. In this way, the boat in the distant marina is very close to the owner and unpleasant surprises at the start of the next trip are almost impossible. It is to be hoped that such a monitoring system will soon find its way into other marinas.
