It is currently unclear who will operate the moorings at the Pantalán del Mediterráneo in the Port of Palma in future. Three companies have submitted bids in response to the tender issued by the Balearic Islands Port Authority (APB): the current operator, Amarres Deportivos, as well as Tanit Ibiza Port and La Azulona 2023.
A concession is being put out to tender for 21,379 square metres of harbour land on the Paseo Marítimo. The term may be up to eight years, and the minimum annual fee for use of the land is 452,442.08 euros plus VAT.
The Pantalán del Mediterráneo is primarily designed for larger yachts. According to the current operator, there are 61 berths for boats between 15 and 120 metres in length. Facilities include, amongst other things, water and electricity connections, Wi-Fi, a 24-hour harbour office, CCTV, as well as facilities for the disposal of waste water and the collection of waste oil.
The candidates: experience or a breath of fresh air in Palma
The current operator, Amarres Deportivos, wishes to continue running the facility. However, the APB had already rejected a request to extend the existing licence in 2023 and, in June 2026, finally cleared the way for a new tender. Competitor Tanit Ibiza Port is part of the IPM Group and already operates several marinas and nautical facilities in the Balearic Islands, including Marina Port Mahón, Marina Ibiza and Marina Port de Mallorca. La Azulona 2023 has been responsible for the 391 berths on the north side of Maó harbour since 2024. The company had announced extensive investment in modernising the facility there.
All three bidders have passed the first stage of the selection process. Their technical proposals will now be assessed by a commission set up by the APB. Only then will the financial bids be evaluated. A decision on the future operator has therefore not yet been made.
