Good news for boat crews with empty tanks in the upper Middle Rhine Valley: the petrol station in Neuwied marina, at Rhine km 605.7, has been converted to self-service. This means that boat crews can now fill up with both diesel and petrol around the clock, seven days a week.

As the petrol station at the Motoryachtclub Neuwied (MYCN) is one of the few boat refuelling stations on the Middle Rhine, it is a great relief for many boat crews to be able to access it as easily as possible. As part of the modernisation of the harbour, the existing filling station was converted to self-service technology. Customers can now refuel without having to book in advance and without the help of a harbour master - around the clock.

The petrol station is easily accessible directly at the entrance to the harbour basin. The marina was only extensively dredged in the spring of this year. This makes the Neuwied marina one of the few harbours on the Middle Rhine between Cologne and Mainz that can also be used at low tide.

Jill Grigoleit was born in Hanover in 1985. An early childhood memory is the large collection of YACHT and SURF magazines from her sailing and surfing enthusiast father. However, growing up in a small Swabian village on the Neckar, she had less to do with water sports in her childhood, apart from a few trips to the Baltic Sea with her family. After studying journalism in Bremen and Hanover, she went into television for a few years. Through a few lucky coincidences, she ended up on the water in 2011 and then returned to the written word professionally. For over ten years, she lived with her family on a houseboat in their own harbor south of Hamburg and wrote a book about houseboat building and life with children on the water. Since 2020, she has mainly been writing travel reports and features about people who live and work on and near the water for BOOTE. She has been a permanent member of the Delius Klasing water sports editorial team since January 2024.
