The boating scene is full of stories about people who plucked up the courage to turn their hobby into a career. The one in question here is about Wieardus Reichl, a North Frisian agricultural engineer who set out in the early 1990s to devote his life to water sports.
As is so often the case, it all started with a passion. The young Wieardus progressed from Opti sailing to fast dinghies and finally to cruising. The then 30-year-old's long-cherished dream of a big trip came true on a sailing trip through the Caribbean and the waters of Central America.
After returning to Germany and moving to Berlin, which was undergoing radical change at the time, it was clear that he would remain loyal to water sports. The idea for the yacht dealership "Spreemarine" was born.
Time played into the hands of the young entrepreneur, who was initially inexperienced in sales, and the boat boom of the early 1990s saw Wieardu's small company, based on the idyllic Müggelsee, grow rapidly. Starting with Etap sailing boats, it soon became clear:
After reunification, the neighbouring inland waters of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Brandenburg opened up for Berliners, and the market there demanded motorboats, preferably displacement boats suitable for cruising.
